The first trailer for the Kellan Lutz film Hercules: The Legend Begins premiered this weekend at New York Comic Con. This is not in fact the same Hercules film that Dwayne Johnson is in, although both films come out in 2014. It appears we could have an Olympus Has Fallen vs White House Down situation in the works.
Although the films will probably have to compete in the box office, and will most likely confuse the general population (as the similarities in genre and setting between Olympus Has Fallen & White House Down did) the stories take place in separate times of Hercules’ life. This film starring Kellan Lutz is the beginning of the legend of Hercules, as the title suggests, and the Dwayne Johnson film Hercules: The Thracian Wars picks up after the legend of Hercules has ended. Below is the official synopsis for each film:
Hercules: The Legens Begins (Kellan Lutz) Synopsis:
In Ancient Greece 1200 B.C., a queen succumbs to the lust of Zeus to bear a son promised to overthrow the tyrannical rule of the king and restore peace to a land in hardship. But this prince, Hercules, knows nothing of his real identity or his destiny. He desires only one thing: the love of Hebe, Princess of Crete, who has been promised to his own brother. When Hercules learns of his greater purpose, he must choose: to flee with his true love or to fulfill his destiny and become the true hero of his time. The story behind one of the greatest myths is revealed in this action-packed epic – a tale of love, sacrifice and the strength of the human spirit.
Hercules: The Thracian Wars (Dwayne Johnson) Synopsis:
Everyone knows the legend of Hercules and his twelve labors. Our story begins after the labors, and after the legend…
Haunted by a sin from his past, Hercules has become a mercenary. Along with five faithful companions, he travels ancient Greece selling his services for gold and using his legendary reputation to intimidate enemies. But when the benevolent ruler of Thrace and his daughter seek Hercules’ help to defeat a savage and terrifying warlord, Hercules finds that in order for good to triumph and justice to prevail… he must again become the hero he once was… he must embrace his own myth… he must be Hercules.
